BURNLEY'S midfield magician Chris Eagles has revealed that his Clarets contract has a clause that states former club Manchester United have the first option to buy him back.
Eagles joined the Turf Moor outfit from United in the summer in a deal thought to be around £1.25million and was seen as a massive coup for Owen Coyle's men, seeing as though he was held in high regard by the backroom staff at Old Trafford.
But it
has now emerged that the 23-year-old has a clause in his contract that would allow Sir Alex Ferguson to take the former England Under 21 International back to the theatre of dreams, and we understand that should a club see an offer accepted for Eagles, United would have an oportunity to match the bid and take him back.
"I'm not going to hold a grudge because I thank Ferguson for everything he's done. He's got me to where I am today and I have learned so much from him," Eagles said in the Daily Star Sunday.
"You have got to have a basic talent but he adds to it. He didn't want me to go. It was sort of on my own back and he fully understood.
"But he's got a clause now that he can buy me back first. I got on so well with the gaffer. He's like a second father to me.
"We had our ups and downs and he used to tell me off if I was in trouble. But I wouldn't change it.
"It was a very hard decision to go because I had a few Premier League clubs interested as well.
"But I felt I wanted to make my own name and be my own person. The manager knew that and I know he watches me every week to keep an eye on me.
"You never know. My dream is that one day I will go back. My dream is to play for England, too, and I'm going to stop until I get that."
Eagles has made a good start to his career in East Lancashire, scoring five goals in 22 starts, which is complimented by seven substitute appearances. The tricky winger faced a spell amongst the substitutes after seeing red in the Clarets' game against Plymouth Argyle in August 2008, but bounced back superbly and picked up form that has seen Premier League side West Bromich Albion express an interest in him.
