It's time for some common sense

Russell Street, Todmorden.

I FULLY endorse Coun Julie Stansfield’s view on the number of supermarkets we have in our small market town of Todmorden, and the threat of ever more.

All the effort being put into boosting small businesses is contradictory and a waste of time when our council thinks of allowing more to open.

The Ormerod Clinic could have been put to good use years ago – ideally as a centre for the elderly and disabled, who would have had easy access to the shops and markets, and ideal for their scooters to get them there.

We have four supermarkets, already enough for any small town, and with a Netto on Burnley Road and one next to the new clinic, where are people going to park their cars? The centre of Todmorden will be like the Spaghetti Junction.

It’s time common sense was brought into the equation – and quick.

Mrs Jean Terry
