The signs are clear, so don’t be surprised

READING about the case of Joanna Hutchison and others in similar cases leaves me a little in two minds.

While I certainly don’t condone aggressive enforcement of the rules on parking, I also definitely don’t condone illegal parking.

It’s no use a driver thinking the rules don’t apply to them.

Joanna can’t claim to be unaware of the private status of the car park in question so should have parked elsewhere in the first place and can’t really complain about getting a ticket/fine: the signs are prominent. “It was only for a minute” isn’t an excuse.

Also, Peggy Thomas’s letter on governing people’s speeds; brilliant idea.

In the meantime, how about impounding and selling the vehicles of offenders (some extra income for enforcing services - tea time to mid-vening on most stretches of Burnley Road, Todmorden, would cover a few officers’ yearly salaries).

Lifetime bans would be appropriate for repeat/serious offenders.

Oil’s running out, you know. The fewer cars on the road the better, eh? Especially the badly and illegally driven ones.

More enforcement please; the rules are there for good reasons. Flouters should, in fairness, lose their rights, and the sooner the better.

And don’t get me started on the subject of double yellow lines

S. Moore,

Todmorden.
