Special celebration for Tangent
Jan Dowling, left, and Irena Brown cut the cake
TODMORDEN Tangent Club members celebrated its 40th birthday at No. 1, Brook Street, Elland on the last Saturday in January.
The lunch was attended by 53 ladies, including the national president of Tangent Clubs, Jan Dowling.
The speaker was Freda Kelsall, who is from Hebden Bridge, a lady of numerous accomplishments, including writing for stage and screen. She has also coached Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth.
Chairman Irena Brown welcomed everyone and gave a brief insight into how the club was founded.
Two of the remaining founder members, Mrs Barbara Finney and Mrs Freda Proctor, lit the candle of friendship along with Irena and Miss Alison Greenwood, whose parents had been founder members of both Todmorden Round Table and Todmorden Ladies Circle, and latterly 41 Club and Tangent members.
Members reported the event was a huge success with an excellent lunch, and it ended with a piece of celebration cake and champagne served to all.
