Peter Thornborrow spoke about “Listed Buildings of the upper Calder Valley”, with particular reference to Mytholmroyd and Cragg Vale to members of Mytholmroyd Historical Society at Mytholmroyd Methodist Church on March 15.

Mr Thornborrow was responsible for listing buildings in Calderdale in the 1970s.

He illustrated his talk with many photographs of listed buildings including some bridges in the Mytholmroyd area and also some which did not quite qualify for listing.

He spoke at length about Broad Bottom Farm explaining how it was carefully restored.

Other listed buildings included Redacre, Great Burlees, Birchenlee Carr, Higher Cragg, Bell House and County Bridge.

More than 60 people attended the meeting, chaired by Tony Wilson. The vote of thanks was given by Robert Davies.

The next meeting of the society is on Friday, April 11, at 7.30pm at Mytholmroyd Methodist Church.

The speaker is Corinne McDonald and her subject will be “Temperance in the Upper Calder Valley”.
