A new chilled-out spot for festival's folk and acoustic events
FOLK and acoustic music events for the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival have found a cool new venue for 2009, appearing at The Hole in t'Wall, Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge.
Offering an intimate, chilled-out space, the venue will be hosting gigs ranging from Harp For Hangovers to the cover band The Re-Entrants, who will furnish audiences with hits by the likes of Britney Spears and Madonna performed by two large blokes with very small ukuleles. Already established as a venue for eclectic music, Justin Pringle, of The Hole in t'Wall said: "We are looking forward to meeting the performers and their audiences, especially The Steals, who are a local band."
The Hole in t'Wall events are all late evening shows to round off long, hot festival days. The first gig will be Klonk on Monday, June 29, a six-piece world music ensemble playing foot-stomping klezmer, bitter-sweet Middle Eastern laments and the odd spicy tango, and they will be followed by the two voice, two ukulele band The Re-Entrants on Wednesday, July 1.
Harp For Hangovers, with Mark Levin on the 29-string Celtic harp and Jenny Davidson on vocals, flute and guitar will be playing harp versions of music by Kings of Leon, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley among others on Tuesday, July 7, and on Wednesday, July 8, an acoustic double bill by Dave McKinley and Squaredog offers ideal mellow summer tunes, with great songs and superb harmonies.
The Steals round off the line-up on July 10, with their unique brand of psychedelic folk. The band are also offering free copies of their new album 'Static Kingdom' to fans who present their tickets at the gig.
Jayn Hanna, of The Steals, said: "The album was inspired by the woods around Hebden and they feature in the artwork. It was written and recorded here, so it will be good to showcase the tracks live at the Arts Festival." Tickets for the events are available in advance on the hotline on 01422 842684 or in person at the Festival Shop on Albert Street.
