Come and see our giant painting of canal scene
Cynthia Murray and Rob Goldthorpe of Todmorden Information Centre Trust with the painting
A GIANT painting capturing a Todmorden canal scene has been gifted to Todmorden Information Centre.
The painting, two and a half metres wide by one and a half metres high (eight feet by four feet) will be on display to visitors for the rest of February - and if you like it, you could own it.
It was painted in raised oils by artist Nick Wood in 1991 and shows a view looking up the Rochdale Canal from Halifax Road to the Golden Lion pub - the area which later became Fielden Wharf.
Cynthia Murray, of the centre trust, said: “We don’t know anyhing else about it and would like to find out more about the artist. It’s on view at the centre, in Burnley Road, until the end of February and we hope people will come and have a look at it. Possibly someone will buy it, as we need to raise funds to pay our continuing running costs. Although the council supports us with a grant for salaries we have day to day expenses like rent and utility bills.”
Mrs Murray said there was still exhibition space available for artists this year - ring 01706 818181 if interested.
