End of year art shows gather pace

AT the launch of the Degrees of Vision Exhibition at Todmorden Community College students on the BA Visual Arts course mingled with civic dignitaries and family and friends as they explained their inspiration.

Roo Waterhouse brought the everyday objects in her mother's household cupboard to the fore in a life-sized painting. Although very personal Roo hopes to create a series of similar paintings of other people's household items.

Oak Avenue, Todmorden, has been brought to life by Chris Cullen in a series of pastel drawings all depicting views from his house, back and front, upstairs and downstairs. And to finish off his display he has reproduced a miniature version of the house across the street, which he built brick by tiny brick.

The students will then exhibit different pieces of their work at Dean Clough Galleries, Halifax, from Saturday, June 19 to Sunday, July 18. The group will then exhibit another selection of artworks at Bankfield Museum, Halifax, from September, 4 to October 31.

Both final year and first year HND students, 16 in total, will be featured in the Process and Progress show, which runs from Monday, June 21 to Friday, June 25, at Todmorden Community College. The exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm daily and on Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8.30pm. There will also be an exhibition Drawn to Art by Diploma and Access art students running from Thursday, July 1 to Thursday, June 8 at the college.
