Hot spots for our visual arts
A showcase of local artist talent is being stage with the Hebden Bridge Open Studios event which runs from Friday July 2 to Sunday July 4.
Hebden Bridge and the Upper Calder Valley has become a real hot spot for the visual arts and crafts in West Yorkshire and fifty-eight artists and craftspeople will be opening their studio doors
The event will allow people to chat to the artists, see their professional work, and provide an opportunity to buy original artwork direct from the studios which are open 11am to 5pm. Admission is free.
There will also be special exhibitions including artists from Old Town exhibiting at Wainsgate Chapel and 'Sidelights' a mixed exhibition of Northlight Studios Associate Members at 'The Back Door'.
The event runs alongside Hebden Bridge Arts Festival. Having grown too large to be run as part of the Festival, the Open Studios event is now organised by a committee of the artists themselves and is in its third successful year.
"The open studio event is a great way to show off the massive diversity in the field of art, especially locally, and to make it more accessible to all", said Paul Czainski, one of the artists taking part.
Central to the event are the four Hebden Bridge studio groups – Northlight Art Studios, Brooklyn Studios, 59 Steps Studios and the Linden arts Group Linden Mill. Also in Linden Mill are several other artists and the ArtsMill' gallery.
There are also many artists working independently throughout the Upper Calder Valley often with studios in their home.
Some of these are easily accessed by foot, as they located in the centre of town. However, to help visitors access the more remote studios, a free minibus tour has been provided on both the Saturday and Sunday.
The day tour will start at Hebden Bridge Marina at 10.40am or it can be joined later in the afternoon as it passes back through Hebden. No booking is required just turn up.
