ART lovers are being given the final chance to see a body of work by an award-winning Calder Valley sculptor.

“He Calls Himself Margaret” by Michele Howarth Rashman is on at Artsmill, at Linden Mill, Linden Road, Hebden Bridge, until Sunday, February 26, and once the exhibition has run it won’t be shown again.

Cragg Vale resident Michele, who creates micro-stitched mixed media sculptures, said: “It came about from something I overheard in the post office. Two old ladies were talking and one said ‘there’s one in the village and he calls himself Margaret’. This work is about what we call ourselves rather than what people say about us.”

Michele, whose fans include The Who’s John Entwistle and The Police guitarist Andy Summers, said it took two years to complete her latest work

“It was in London’s fashionable Shoreditch first and it was great. The opening night was packed out and people had to stand outside in the street,” she said. “When you work for so long by yourself it is quite nice to get a positive reaction.”

Michele, who is now working on her next piece, would like to thank Artsmill, Abacus Framers in Mytholmroyd, Lambert Printers in Hebden Bridge, Prodoto Photographic Studios in Mytholmroyd and cabinet maker Tony Dyter for all their help and support.

Artsmill opens Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am to 4pm. For more information about Michele visit www.michelehowarthrashman.com.
