Two groups in harmony at show for ribbon campaign

Menfolk Waits

Menfolk Waits

As part of its ongoing music series, the Fielden Centre in Todmorden is proud to host a concert of vocal music on February 25.

The two ultra talented groups performing (8pm start) are Alyssium and Menfolk Waits.

Alyssium is a female vocal ensemble formed a year ago to perform music written by local choral director and composer Alison West. This is the group’s first concert and Alison has collaborated with three local poets to create music which is atmospheric, evocative and sometimes humorous.

“From the Parsonage” sets three poems about the Bronte sisters by Amanda Dalton, “Enchanted” is by Angie Cairns and describes a boat trip to remote Scottish islands. “To Eros in Winter” is a striking setting of a poem by Donald Atkinson.

Alyssium will also sing “Sea Songs” - Emily Dickinson poems about the sea.

Menfolk Waits sing Georgian, comic, folk and unique compositions. They return to the Fielden Centre after a well received performance in 2010.

Proceeds go to the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC), the leading charity working to engage men in speaking out about violence against women. It is based in Mytholmroyd and both Alyssium and Menfolk Waits rehearse in WRC’s rooms.

Refreshments are available and admission on the door is £7 (concessions £5). All further enquiries, ring 07884 022326.
