Todmorden
The next Oak over 50s 'Drop-in Friday' will take place at Central Methodist Church on August 27 from 10am until 3pm. Activities include line dancing, sequence dancing, Tai Chi, board games, singing, the knitting clinic and 'writing for everyone' sessions. Refreshments including soup and a ploughman's platter are available. Tai Chi sessions also take place at Yew Tree Court, Walsden, on Fridays at 9.40am. Fans of cricket and curry will find both at Walsden Cricket Club on Friday August 27. A twenty20 match featuring several Sri Lankan professionals and leading league players will be followed by a curry provided by Walsden professional Duminda Perera. There will also be a chance to win a London hotel voucher and a signed Sri Lankan international shirt. The event begins at 5pm.
The next Todmorden Walkabout will take place on August 29. The fortnightly Sunday walks, which explore local towpaths and lower hills, start at 11.15am outside Morrison's main entrance and last about two hours. New walkers are asked to arrive at 11am. Besses O' Th' Barn Band will perform in Centre Vale Park on Sunday August 29 as part of the Centre Stage Festival of Brass. The concert will run from 3-5pm. Light refreshments will be available on the day and there is ample space for a picnic. For more information, visit www.atouchofbrass.org.

Todmorden Choral Society's opening rehearsal of the new season will be held at Central Methodist Church on Wednesday September 1 at 7.30pm. The society is beginning to prepare for a busy 12 months including performances of Vivaldi's 'Gloria' and Handel's 'Messiah'. All welcome.

On August 29, HX7 Jazz Club brings back the Sunday lunchtime jazz sessions, starting with an inaugural line-up including Atholl Ransome, Gary Boyle, Bruce Reid, Jonathan Hartley and Brian Acton. The Great British R and B Festival will be held over the Bank Holiday weekend.
