Todmorden

The next Oak over 50s 'Drop-in Friday' will take place at Central Methodist Church on September 3 from 10am until 3pm. Activities include line dancing, sequence dancing, Tai Chi, board games, singing, the knitting clinic and 'writing for everyone' sessions. Refreshments including soup and a ploughman's platter are available. Tai Chi sessions also take place at Yew Tree Court, Walsden, on Fridays at 9.40am. The monthly Strictly Vinyl club night will be held at the Venue nightclub on Friday September 3 from 11pm until 4am. The night will feature Todmorden soul, shaking house and electro with the regular DJs. Admission is 5.

The next Todmorden Walkabout will take place on Monday September 6, beginning at 11am outside the Acorn Centre. The fortnightly, short Monday walks on level paths or pavements last about an hour and are ideal for getting started. New walkers are asked to arrive at 10.45am. An Age Concern lunch club is held at Walsden Cricket Club every Tuesday at 12 noon. A two course meal, tea and coffee is available for 3.25. Age Concern staff and volunteers can collect people attending for the first time. For more information, contact Rachael or Catherine on 01706 817926.

Hebden Bridge

'Gainsbourg', a glimpse at the life of Serge Gainsbourg including growing up in 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris and his successful song-writing years in the 1960s, is showing at the Picture House from September 3-5. Visitors to the Ellenroad Steam Museum can experience the power of the world's largest working mill engine in full steam at an open day on Sunday September 5 from 12 noon until 4pm. The Calderdale Heritage Walks group will go on the third walk in its series in the Elland area on Sunday September 5. In 1750 the area was almost all open land.
