A PLAYWRIGHT has penned a show about a visit to Manchester 50 years ago by the first man in space.
Joyce Branagh, of Todmorden, has written ‘Peggy and the Spaceman’, a fun-filled family show which is set in 1961 and based on the true events during cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin’s trip to the city.
The play will be performed at Sacha’s Hotel, Tib Street, Manchester, from July 23-29 at 3:30pm daily as part of the prestigious 24:7 Theatre Festival. The cast includes former Hollyoaks star Saira Choudhry, Luke Walker and Eve Robertson, of Todmorden.
“The play appeals to children aged six upwards and their families as it’s a blend of historical fact, 60s nostalgia and out-of-this-world fun,” Joyce said.
