THINGS to do and see and places to go around the area over the next few days.

l A summer health walk along the canal path from Hebden Bridge to Todmorden will take place today (Thursday). The four-mile, mostly flat linear walk will last between 60 and 90 minutes. It will be led by a qualified walk leader and the route includes some inclines. Public transport will be used for the return journey. Meet at Hebden Bridge Visitor and Canal Centre at 10.30am.

l A range of summer holiday activities will take place at Hardcastle Crags in the coming week, starting with a mask making session at Gibson Mill today (Thursday) from 1-4pm.

l Youngsters and their families can go pond dipping on Friday July 29 and Monday August 1 from 1-4pm each day. Meet at Gibson Mill.

l A bear themed art, crafts and stories session will run at Gibson Mill on Tuesday August 2 from 1-4pm.

l On Wednesday August 3, visitors to Gibson Mill can show their creative side by making a book. The class will run from 1-4pm.

l Rose Byrne stars in ‘Bridesmaids’ at the Picture House from July 29-31. The comedy features Annie, a maid of honour whose life unravels as she leads her best friend Lillian and a group of colourful bridesmaids on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals and she shows Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you will go for someone you love.

l Also showing at the Picture House in the coming week is ‘Incendies’ (July 28). Canadian twins Jeanne and Simon are left two envelopes in their mother’s will asking them to find a brother and father they never knew they had. Journeying from Canada to Lebanon the twists and turns of their mother’s mysterious past reveal an emotionally charged and gut wrenching truth that is deeply rooted in the country’s tumultuous history.

l Gerard Depardieu stars in ‘Mammuth’ (August 1 and 2). The film, one of France’s biggest box office successes of 2010, is a funny and subversive tale of one man’s attempt to secure his state pension while facing the prospect of retirement and the inevitability of growing old in the modern world.

l Jack Black and Angelina Jolie provide voices for characters in ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ (July 28 until August 4). Having become the Dragon Warrior, Po now protects the Valley of Peace with his friends and fellow kung fu masters, the Furious Five. But an evil foe has emerged in the form of emperor albino peacock Lord Shen, who plans to conquer China with an unstoppable weapon.

l Americana sensation Harpeth Rising comes to the Trades Club on Wednesday August 3. The group of young, classically trained musicians brings a distinctive sound to Americana, blending a bit of bluegrass, folk, classical and originality. Cello and hand drums are added to banjo and fiddle to create a truly new sound.
