IN an earlier adaptation of 'Tom's Midnight Garden' in which Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society director John Spooner and his wife were taking part, they were fortunate enough to meet the novel's author Philippa Pearce.
John uses his earlier experience in the production at the Hippodrome Theatre, which is on at 7.30pm tonight, tomorrow and on Saturday.
There is much to stimulate the imagination in this magical play, where changes in time between the 1890s and 1950s are achieved by the skilful use of sound, lighting and movement.
Often children’s roles are played by adults but it is always beneficial for the society’s adult and junior sections to work together.
In this full-length play, with its large cast, the main action is in the hands of the children, while the adults play subordinate roles. Tom (Jacob Rolfe) and Hatty (Chloe Gray) play the main characters in David Wood’s adaptation of the classic children’s novel.
