DANCERS, choir singers, sword wielding knights, a scout troop and dignitaries from far and wide all came to Todmorden to help celebrate Polish Day.
Hundreds of people enjoyed traditional Polish food and festivities at Todmorden Town Hall last Saturday in the third annual Polish Day celebrations organised by Todmorden Polish Club.
Chairman of the club Dr William Okanga said the event had been the best ever.
"We had the children of St Joseph's School choir, conducted by Daniel Bath, singing Polish songs in Polish. And we had an older Polish choir conducted by a nun singing various songs including the national anthem, which was very moving.
"The consular, who came from Manchester, was very impressed with the event and there were people who came from Calderdale and Huddersfield to see the town hall. The food was spectacular and we must have fed hundreds of people," said Dr Okanga.
Dancing groups Podhalla, from Rochdale, and Polonez, from Manchester, entertained the crowds with traditional dancing and encouraged participation.
Sword dancers, in the tradition of Polish knights, demonstrated their skills in sword fighting. And a Polish scout troop from Halifax came along to help out on the day.
The Mayor of Wapno, Andrzej Bak, and his wife exchanged gifts with the Deputy Mayor of Todmorden, Coun Cheryl Stovin, and Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Coun David O'Neill.
"It was absolutely wonderful. The whole event has come along in the last three years from a small get together to this great celebration," said Coun O'Neill.
"We had some lovely Polish food, which had been cooked by some of the Polish residents in Todmorden.
"We had a lovely time and really enjoyed the event and it's so nice to see the town hall being used in this way."
Todmorden Children's Centre created a quiet corner, which was well used by children and their parents wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the event for a short time.
There was traditional egg painting and St Joseph's School demonstrated arts and craft activities.
