CALDER Valley Youth Theatre's production of Les Miserables at the Playhouse in Halifax is a real family affair.
Sixteen-year-old Jack Mitchell, from Mytholmroyd, is in the chorus while his father, Dave, holds the baton as musical director and his 18-year-old brother Chris plays guitar in the band.

Backstage their mum, Melissa, is putting stage make-up on the young actors and helping with the costumes, as well as fulfilling her role as the theatre group's treasurer.

Throughout the six months of rehearsals in Hebden Bridge, the pianist accompanying the young performers was Jennifer Mitchell, also from Mytholmroyd, who is Dave's mother and Jack and Chris's grandmother.

And the whole show was put together by the director, Abigail Sharp, who is Melissa's sister.

The family is passionate about music and theatre. Dave and his team of musicians play for amateur theatre performances throughout the north and Chris is currently applying to study music at university.

Les Miserables has a special place in the family's heart. Dave said: "It was the show Melissa and I went to see on our honeymoon. It's always been my dream to stage it."

The show continues at the Playhouse until Saturday, November 22. To book tickets, contact the box office on 01422 365998.
