POLICE are appealing for information after 23 sheep are believed to have been stolen from a farm at Sourhall Moor, Mankinholes, Todmorden.
It is suspected that fences around the field were cut at about noon on Monday January 9 before the sheep were taken.
Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who noticed anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch.
Police received a further report last night of one of the remaining sheep being attacked by a dog.
The sheep was injured and had to be put down.
Sergeant Damon Walker, of the Upper Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), said a vehicle must have been used during the theft to take the sheep away.
“Wildlife crime is taken very seriously, as in this case, the livelihood of this particular farmer has been affected at a time of year when sheep are in lamb,” he said.
Anyone who has any information about the incident is urged to call PC Lisa McDonald, in the Upper Valley NPT, on 101.
