A CALDER Valley charity shop was chosen as one of just 50 to stock a limited edition single by top-selling indie rockers Arctic Monkeys this week.
Following the phenomenal success of the Crying Lightning 7-inch, which was available exclusively through Oxfam shops, Arctic Monkeys are once again teaming up with the charity for a follow-up single Cornerstone, which went on sale in the Hebden Bridge Oxfam shop on Monday, November 16, as revealed on the Hebden Bridge Times website at the weekend.
The limited-edition went on sale exclusively in 50 Oxfam shops across the UK on that day.
The Crying Lightning 7-inch, which was also available from the Hebden Bridge shop, sold about 10,000 copies in just a few weeks, making it one of the biggest-selling vinyl singles so far this century.
Sales of Crying Lightning bucked the industry trend for seven inch sales, which have more than halved since 2007, and currently command just a 0.4 per cent market share.
The Cornerstone 10-inch will cost £4.99, and each single will come with a download code allowing fans to get an MP3 version of the songs free.
The record is the second single from recent number one album Humbug, features new track Catapult as well as exclusive B-sides Sketchead and Fright Lined Dining Room.
Domino and Arctic Monkeys are also calling on music fans to bring in any unwanted albums or singles to their local Oxfam shop when they pick up their copy of the single, to help Oxfam keep turning yesterday’s hits into vital funds for years to come.
Rhiannedd Mclean, manager of the Hebden Bridge shop, said: “Our customers loved being able to pick up a piece of musical history with ‘Crying Lightning’, and Arctic Monkeys fans were leaving the shop with bags full of Oxfam purchases, so it’s great that we’re doing it all again.
“And even better is that with every record bought, local music fans are helping us to fight poverty around the world.”
