Arrest in Walsden alleged sexual assault case

POLICE have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with an allegation of serious sexual assault in Walsden in the early hours of Tuesday (December 30).
A police spokesman said today (December 31, New Year's Eve) that in conjunction with the incident: "A 40-year-old man from Rochdale has been arrested and is being questioned by detectives."
Yesterday police confirmed they were investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault in Walsden at 1.19 am that morning. The car park - just off Rochdale Road, Walsden, close to the bus turning circle just past Gordon Rigg's Garden Centre - was cordoned off while officers examined the site.
It is alleged a 17-year-old girl from the Todmorden area was assaulted in the car park. Specially trained officers were speaking to the girl yesterday.
