A BEVY of beauties rolled up their sleeves to pack bags in their bridal attire in a fundraising event.
Shoppers at Morrisons were treated to service with panache and flair by Yvonne Greenwood, Joanne Meakin, Alison Burridge, Rachel Hartley and Ian Waterson-Perrow, all dressed to the nines in flowing white gowns.

The fundraising event, which was followed by a party at Walsden Cricket Club, was held in memory of Chris Pownall, who died last month after battling cancer.

All the proceeds will go to Chris' wife, Amanda, and their daughter, Tiana.

Event organiser Yvonne said everyone wanted to get involved because Chris had been so well known, especially at the cricket club, where he played. He also played football for teams in the town.

The bag pack at Morrisons raised £765 and the total raised from the bag pack, party, sponsorship and collections from pubs later on, was £2,243.

Yvone thanked Walsden Cricket Club for letting them have the venue free of charge, Keith Rudman for his services as DJ and Morrisons for allowing them to do the bag pack.

"There's quite a few of us doing this and we've sold over 80 tickets for the party because Chris was so well known," said Yvonne.

And the bag packing was a great success at Morrisons.

"It's a jolly place here; the customers are having a laugh and the staff are cheery. It's good fun and it's not every day you get to wear your wedding dress again."

Ian not only donned a wedding dress and blonde wig for the occasion but he was looking forward, with trepidation, to having his chest waxed at the evening party as a further fundraising effort.

The bag packing event was part of World Wedding Dress Day.
