THE five winners of Todmorden town council's 'Design A Light' competition will assist Mayor of Todmorden, Coun Julie Stansfield, at the Christmas lights switch-on.
Lucy Williams' penguin, Eve Marshall's angel, Susannah Leah's Santa, Isla MacRae's reindeer and Waol Wanthong Panrawee's Santa on a motorbike have all been turned into Christmas lights and will be displayed in town during the festive season.

At a meeting of the town council back in February, members approved the five winning designs selected by the judging panel from a large number and high standard of entries received.

Coun Stansfield said: "They were all fantastic. It took us some time to come to a decision."

The council has run the competition to have Christmas lights designed by local children for several years and all the Todmorden schools have taken part. Many favourable comments have been received on their originality and attractiveness.

Coun Pam Lally said: "It's a wonderful competition and it keeps going from strength to strength."

The switch-on will take place on Saturday November 22 at 4.30pm. Entertainment will be provided by Todmorden Community Brass Band and Todmorden Choral Society from 4pm.

Patrick Ottley-O'Connor, headteacher at Todmorden High School, will be the event's MC.
