TALENTED youngsters were chosen from thousands of entrants and danced their way to a television competition final.
The three budding stars, Chelsea Judson (12), Raven Eames (8) and Shelley Mill (9), of the Dawn Chapman School of Dance, Burnley Road, Todmorden, will be appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ Dinky Dancer feature.
The school heard about the competit
ion back in February and Dawn said they had to send in a short video of the girls dancing and ITV would then pick out the best to go into the competition.
Raven and Chelsea sent their video off after being filmed dancing the Quickstep and the Cha Cha Cha.
‘‘We were then telephoned in March by ITV to be told that the girls had been chosen out of thousands of videos to be in one of the four finals, with 30 couples in each, to be held in Liverpool on March 18,’’ said Dawn.
‘‘Unfortunately Chelsea Judson was two months too old, although she was only 11 when she entered the competition she would have turned 12 before the final in Liverpool.’’
ITV allowed the school to replace Chelsea with Shelley Mill and she travelled to Liverpool with Raven and both mums. The girls all had to learn ten ballroom dances, the Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive, because the TV company would not disclose which of the ten they would have to perform until they got there. The judges had to choose just one couple out of 30 on the day to go into the live TV final.
‘‘Although Raven and Shelley were not chosen they had a lovely day,’’ said Dawn. ‘‘Both received a certificate signed by the presenters Philip Schofield and Fern Britton.’’
They were also scheduled to appear on the ‘This Morning’ show as part of the Dinky Dancer feature on any of the following dates, April 18, April 25, May 2 or May 9.
‘‘The whole school is very proud of its new TV stars including Chelsea,’’ said Dawn. ‘‘All three girls study ballroom and Latin dancing at the school.’’
