A MOORLAND blaze was tackled by firefighters from both sides of the border as it raged across several square miles.
John Davies, Todmorden crew manager, said Todmorden firefighters had joined crews from Lancashire to tackle the blaze on Tuesday night at Blackstone Edge.
"We were up there for about three hours. It was a massive fire stretching a few square miles. We tackled it mainly with beaters but we hope to have our new Land Rover operational soon so that we will have additional facilities to tackle moorland fires.
Mr Davies added: "The new Land Rover will enable us to get further onto the moors; it has a smaller pump to allow us to get water from streams and it also has a fire fogger, which is a specialist piece of equipment designed to dampen down moorland fires."
