WALSDEN Rail Action Group (WRAG) held a public meeting at the Methodist Church in Walsden on Monday, November 10 which was attended by more than 50 people.
At the meeting WRAG presented a petition of 1,071 signatures to Metro's representative, John Oxley, Rail Manager at Metro, calling for their support for the reinstatement of rail services at Walsden which Northern Rail are cutting in the December 2008 timetable and for an improved service.

Walsden residents were actively supported by councillors Hilary Myers, Olwen Jennings, Ruth Goldthorpe and John Rodgers in a lively discussion where many concerns were raised with John Oxley.

Mr Oxley said it was too late for any changes to be made to the December timetable but that he would be willing to work with WRAG, with the aim of achieving an improved level of service for Walsden in the May 2009 timetable.

No representative from Northern Rail was available to attend at the meeting.

WRAG wishes to thank everyone who supported their petition.
