A VARIETY of musicians and dancers took to the stage to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal.
More than £1,000 was raised at the Benefit Concert for Haiti at the Hippodrome Theatre, Todmorden, on Saturday night.

The money will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee Haiti Fund.

Hosted by Russell Lane, the evening began with a solo recital of the music of JS Bach by international violinist Tamaki Dickenson.

She was followed by Todmorden’s own Three Valleys Gospel Choir who entertained everybody with a selection of gospel songs old and new. They also sang soul and contemporary pieces.

The True North Tribal Belly Dancers from Halifax performed two dances, followed by local band Share The Blame who played a eclectic mix of music from funk to country.

The Wes Paul Band ended the night with a selection of rock and roll, Elvis and Beatles numbers which had the audience dancing in the aisles.

The band was joined on stage by Share The Blame for the grand finale.

Many local businesses, shops and restaurants donated prizes for the raffle.

Concert organisers thanked all those who helped to stage the event.

A spokeswoman said: “The support from many wonderful individuals was overwhelming.

“A great thank you goes out to the Hippodrome Theatre and its staff for making it a good night out.”
