POLICE will be taking the bus following a spate of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
Officers will be at bus stations in Todmorden, Halifax and Brighouse tomorrow in response to reports of damage to buses. In recent attacks windows have been smashed by stones thrown at passing vehicles. It is hoped the police presence will deter peop
le from acts of vandalism, while protecting drivers and passengers.
Officers will be travelling on buses that have been affected and Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be targeting 'hot spot' areas and bus stops where incidents have occurred, mainly at night. Police have been working closely with First bus group and British Transport Police to combat the problem.
Inspector Derrick Oldham, Calderdale Partnerships Inspector, said: "This is an on-going problem which is obviously causing us concern.
"We will ensure a high visibility presence throughout Calderdale to tackle vandalism, anti-social behaviour and robbery.
"The people committing these crimes should be aware that we are focusing our attention on the areas where incidents have occurred and that we will be doing all we can to catch them."
Officers from the lower and upper valley neighbourhood policing teams will also travel on buses and make high visibility patrols at Todmorden and Brighouse bus stations.
Alan Pllbeam, managing director for First in Calderdale, said: "We welcome the support of West Yorkshire Police and British Transport Police to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour on our buses and at bus stations in Halifax, Brighouse and Todmorden.
"A small minority of people cause problems for the majority of our law abiding passengers and it is important that we all work together to tackle these issues quickly and efficiently."
Anyone who has any information about people committing this type of crime should contact their local neighbourhood policing team on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, anonymously and in confidence, on 0800 555111.
