A SINGING group that brings out the feel-good factor will hold their first public performance this week.
The Feelgood Singing Group will be singing at the Hebden Bridge Vale Centre on Monday, May 19 and hopefully the audience will be appreciative but it was the well-being of the participants that was the central focus when the group was piloted by Popps, the Partnership for Older People's Projects, one of which is the neighbourhood scheme for older people in Todmorden.

"Although we are enjoying the singing we need something to aim for and that's why we've organised this performance," said Janice Wrench, a singer in the group and a volunteer for Oak, an organisation that is emerging from the original Popps project. The singing group also hopes to perform at the harvest festival event.

"Older people feel left out because there's so many activities available for children and families but we have to make our own entertainment," said Janice, who decorated the community room in Ridgefoot, Pennine Housing complex, where the singing group meets every Friday afternoon.

Janice has also started transforming the garden at the rear of the building into an accessible place for the residents of Ridgefoot and hopes that she will be able to pick up more than just growing tips from the Community Gardening course, launched by Popps at the Acorn Centre with help from Incredible Edible Todmorden. Volunteers would also be welcome in the garden, which has already brightened the vista for the older people looking out of their windows. And Janice now has dreams of a sensory garden.
