A TREE blocked the Rochdale Canal when it toppled down the banking on Tuesday morning.
The large tree blocked the canal at Walsden, just behind Walsden Junior School after tumbling down around 5 am.
A British Waterways spokesperson confirmed that a tree had fallen into the canal between lock 26 and 27.
"Tree specialists have been dispatched and have removed enough of the obstruction so that the towpath is now navigable.
"Due to the size and location of the obstruction specialist machinery and contractors are on site to remove the tree."
