They attended a special informal meeting of the Council's Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel, held at Eureka! The Museum for Children, in Halifax, last week.

The young people also outlined some of the work they had done and some of the recent projects they had been involved in, among them the Young Inspectors team and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Chairman of Calderdale Council's Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel, Coun Olwen Jennings (Todmorden, Lib Dem), says it's important that young people have a voice and that elected members have the opportunity to hear their opinions and celebrate their achievements.

"It was encouraging to see young people really engaged and interested in a wide range of issues at both local and national level.

"I was delighted to see so many young people showing such a keen interest in what the council does and really taking an interest in their communities," said Coun Jennings.
