A buzz in the air as Mayor and Bertie meet customers

There was a buzz in the air recently, and it heralded a special guest arriving in town to officially open the refurbished Todmorden Post Office.

As the sunlight tried to break through it heralded a flash of yellow black - and claret and blue - as Burnley Football Club’s mascot Bertie Bee arrived to do the honours at the post office in Brook Street.

Bertie met up with Mayor of Todmorden Coun Jayne Booth and Mayoress Michaela Booth and all three cut the ribbon to declare the new-look premises officially open.

Bertie met Post Master Stephen Spencer and his staff, who as well as running services had prepared sandwiches, cakes and drinks for people calling in to take a look at the refurbished post office.

The Clarets’ mascot was on hand to greet the early arrivals, handing out balloons to youngsters, and the Mayor and Mayoress chatted to customers.

Mr Spencer said: “Everything has been replaced - our counter is set back, we have all-new shop-fitted units, new flooring and signage and the staff have new distinctive uniforms as part of the Post Office’s branding.

“We are also extending our opening hours. We will be open from 8.30am to 6.30pm Mondays to Fridays and from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays,” he said.
