MORE than 50 guests were welcomed to Todmorden Lions Club’s 32nd charter dinner at Walsden Cricket Club.
They included Mayor and Mayoress of Todmorden, Coun Margareta Holmstedt and Coun Dorothy Jordan, and Lions’ past district governor John Daker and Lion Susan Daker.
Todmorden club president Mr Rod Wainwright gave the toast to Lions International and outlined the many activities carried out by Lions in the town over the years, including fundraising events such as the Pram Race, the Duck Race, the Canal Walk and the Family Fun Day as well as “specials” such as an American Civil War re-enactment battle, a Viking invasion, Donkey Derbies and many more.
He also spoke about the help Lions made to many groups and individuals, inclusing founding Todmorden Talking Newspaper.
The club was thanked by Mr Daker on behalf of the International President, and Mr Wainwright presented a cheque to the Mayor for her chosen charity, the Youth Caravan.
She also thanked the Lions for their work.
Entertainment was provided by local magician Mr Peter Roberts.
