MORE than 60 people attended a carvery lunch to launch Todmorden Cricket Club’s 175th anniversary year.
The event, held at the club’s Centre Vale ground, saw players and members gather for a sherry and bucks fizz reception, followed by a roast dinner.
Club chairman Tony Gledhill said it was a really good day.
“It went down very well and everybody enjoyed it,” he said.
“We raised about £450, which is a good start to the year.”
President Malcolm Heywood gave a toast to Todmorden Cricket Club before everybody sat down for the lunch.
The club was very pleased to welcome Lancashire League president Bert Hanson, who accepted an invitation to attend the launch event.
Numerous other get-togethers are planned throughout 2012 as the club holds a year of celebrations. “It’s certainly got off to a good start,” Tony said.
“Early January is always a difficult time for some people just after Christmas but it was a very good afternoon. Our next event is scheduled for early March. We are trying to put something on every month.”
