THE decision to refuse planning permission for an Asda supermarket on the Halifax Road site has given the town an opportunity to develop, according to Todmorden Pride.
David Storah. from the group, is pleased that a decision has been made and the uncertainty about a supermarket development on the site has now been removed.
Mr Storah, who spoke at the planning inquiry, said Todmorden Pride still supports development of the Burnley Road site.
The group would also like to see the Halifax Road site - owned by a bank - tidied up and, eventually, see development of the land.
“We will ask elected members to pressure the owners, through planning legislation, to tidy it up so that at least it looks nice rather than having a mess sitting on the edge of town,” Mr Storah said.
