Beautiful sunshine outside and some beautiful displays inside brought plenty of visitors to help celebrate a hundred years of the Mothers Union in Todmorden at St Mary’s Church.
Running over three days, and including a special service of celebration on Saturday afternoon, Mothers Union members - the branch has around 50 - were joined by visitors and members of the church community to make it a memorable occasion.
The ladies had put together displays about the branch’s history and also contributed some deft needlework to make a centenary banner and a piece of embroidery placed at the altar which included all their signatures.
Refreshments were sold throughout the weekend and topping off the celebrations were some wonderful flower displays which included contributions from other groups in Todmorden and further afield as well as the Mothers Union and St Mary’s Church groups.
The others came from St Hilda’s, Halifax, Todmorden C of E School, uniformed organisations from the scout and guide movements, National Play and Care, Todmorden In Bloom, St Michael’s Cornholme, Incredible Edible Todmorden, Todmorden Women’s Institute and St Peter’s, Walsden.
