HEIGHT Gate camping barn has been hired as a base for this year’s Treesponsibility Autumn Gathering, which will be held on November 5 and 6, and there will be accommodation there from the Friday evening.
The cost of this and food will be £25 for the entire weekend. There will be pick ups from Hebden Bridge railway station at 6pm and 8pm and other times by arrangement.
On Friday there will be a simple meal and the famous Treesponsibility story game and Dongria Kondh will be giving ‘The Source’ presentation.
There will be a feast on Saturday night and Treesponsibility hopes that Sophie Cook will be here to give her “True Cost of Coal” workshop which consists of moving stories from communities involved in the extraction of coal through history and is based on a giant poster. This will be followed by entertainment from local musicians.
People can join group volunteers during the day for the tree planting. There will be pick ups from Todmorden station at 10.15am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday - but do get in touch to check times and book a place on the number below, said a spokesman.
“We have a couple of sites to go at, although we are still in the process of clearing one of them with Todmorden Wildlife Group. They are both above Todmorden. One is Swineherd Clough - a steep eroding valley and good site for us from a flood mitigation perspective.
“Not a great site to bring kids though as the access is very steep with a stream at the bottom. The other site is above Kilnhurst Wood, and will extend this existing woodland. Again the terrain is steep and eroding and not really suitable for kids.
“We will be planting mostly birch and oak, with some willow or alder along the stream in the clough.”
