JOBS are under threat as an award-winning brewery faces closure due to a planning wrangle.

Barearts, on Rochdale Road, Todmorden, has been served with an enforcement notice by Calderdale Council’s planning department, saying its shop and art gallery does not have the correct planning permission.

But Barearts claims it has had a licence from the council to sell and consume beer and wine on the premises since 2007.

Owners Kathy and Trevor Cook have appealed the enforcement notice and the Planning Inspectorate will now make the final decision. They said that if the ruling goes against them, they will have no choice but to close, resulting in the loss of seven jobs.

“It’s very upsetting,” Kathy said. “If the planning decision goes against us, we will close.

“We love Todmorden. It’s our home really.
