A brewery is raising a glass after being named one of the top ten in the country by readers of a national newspaper.

Barearts Brewery, on Rochdale Road, Todmorden, has been highlighted as one of the best in the UK in a readers’ poll for The Guardian’s food and drink section.

The entry in the guide described Barearts as “a quirky little brewery with off-sales and tastings”.

It said the brewery’s wide range of beers and ciders are “lovingly prepared, beautifully packaged and reasonably priced”.

There was praise for owners Trevor and Kathy Cook, who are described as “entertaining hosts”.

Trevor was very pleased with the recognition.

“It was quite a surprise,” he said. “Our lovely customers nominated us without our knowledge.”

He said he has already had enquiries from outside the area.
