An RSPCA volunteer has established a dog grooming parlour after receiving training and support from the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency.
Michelle Duxbury has opened The Canine Beautician, on Halifax Road, Todmorden, after her love of the animals led her to take formal training in dog grooming and micro-chipping
“I’ve always loved dogs and I’m really excited to open The Canine Beautician as well groomed dogs are happier and more contented,” she said.
Michelle was on the New Enterprise Allowance Scheme run by the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency.
As part of the scheme, candidates on the programme are given access to free start-up workshops to help them write a business plan.
They are then matched with a volunteer from the business community - Michelle was paired with Janet Bishop - who acts as a mentor to help them start their business.
“Janet has mentored me whilst I have been setting up my business and has been great to bounce ideas off, helped me research and overcome issues and given me advice she has learnt from running her own business,” Michelle said.
“I’ve been so inspired by her and the scheme that one day I would like to be a mentor and help someone else too.”
Janet said: “It’s great to help someone who is setting up their own business and really rewarding to see Michelle open up the shop.
“I’m sure she will do well.”
