Calderdale election results: Labour win two out of three - Tories hold on in third valley ward

LABOUR have won two of the three upper valley Calderdale Council seats, while the Conservatives have hung on for the third.

Labour swept to victory in Todmorden ward where Jayne Booth was the victor, while Dave Young took the Calder ward seat for the party.

In Luddenden Foot ward, Conservative Richard Marshall fought off a strong challenge from Labour’s Simon Young to retain his seat.

Conservative Julie Stansfield was runner-up in Todmorden ward, with Olwen Jennings, who was defending her seat for the Liberal Democrats, third.

With former Liberal Democrat Calder ward councillor David O’Neill throwing his hat into the Todmorden ward ring this time around as an Independent, a split vote is likely to have had an effect.

In Calder ward Hywel Morgan, defending the seat for the Liberal Democrats, was betaen into second place.
