Towns and villages across Calderdale fell silent this morning (Sunday) as residents paid their respect to fallen heroes.
Remembrance Services attended by representatives of the military, civic dignitaries, uniformed organisations and members of the public have taken place in Halifax, Brighouse, Bailiff Bridge, llingworth and Bradshaw, Northowram, Elland, Greetland, Rastrick, Sowerby Bridge, Luddenden Foot, Shelf, Ovenden & District, Rishworth, Ripponden and Barkisland, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Southowram, Siddal, Todmorden, Heptonstall and Blackshaw Head.
In Halifax and Bailiff Bridge, attendances have been up on previous years with thousands turning out to pay their respects.
The Revd Canon Hilary Barber, who conducted the service at Halifax Minster, said: “It went really well. It was a cold and frosty morning, but it was dry and the town joined the rest of the nation as we remembered those men and women who gave their lives in the Great Wars - and subsequent action - for our freedom.”
