Rehearsals are well underway for Todmorden Amateur Operatics and Dramatics Society’s next production, Day Of Reckoning - but for the Valentine’s Week show, they are still missing a Cupid...
The show opens on Wednesday, February 16, just two days after Valentine’s Day and they are desperate for a cupid - a stone cupid to be precise - to take a pivotal role in a hilarious scene from the play.
Set in a rural village hall where a committee are meeting to discuss arrangements for the Summer Fete only six months away, the play looks forward to sunnier days with a wide range of interesting characters.
The second act rejoins the committee and cupid on the day of the fete to find that a lot has happened in the intervening time.
“There’s things going on in this parish that’d make a saint turn up his toes,” says one of the characters, Ethel Swift.
The cupid then falls apart like the lives of the characters as, one by one they reveal their secrets - dark, tragic, funny and poignant, alike.
Director Michael Gill says: “It’s a great show. Anyone who lives in a rural community or has helped on a committee organising an event will relate to this play and empathise with its characters.
“The stone cupid is crucial in one of the funnier scenes and for a play written by Pam Valentine, staged just after Valentine’s Day, it just fits in perfectly. So, if anyone has one please get in touch.”
If any reader has a stone cupid they would consider giving or lending to TAODS for Day Of Reckoning, please contact Justine Sutcliffe on 07970 857 258.
