Calderdale Green Party has announced Tessa Gordziejko as candidate for Calderdale Council in Calder ward.

Her selection comes after Calderdale Green Party re-opened nominations following Elizabeth King’s decision to stand in Luddenden Foot, where she lives, rather than in Calder ward.

She promises to offer voters a genuine alternative to the grey parties, and believes she has a real chance of becoming Calderdale’s first Green councillor.

She said she would work to end the “austerity”-driven war on the poor, push for effective energy efficiency programmes to help tackle climate change and fuel poverty, and give special emphasis to adult social care and the NHS.

Ms Gordziejko said: “The crisis in adult social care is an issue affecting us all.

“Current council budget proposals based on cutting costs through outsourcing social care will deepen the crisis, and it will have a knock on effect on health services, especially in A&E.

“It is shameful that we treat care for our frail elderly as a tradable commodity.

“If elected I will be pushing for the council to formally consult the public about these major changes’

Ms Gordziejko, who has lived in Hebden Bridge for 26 years, is an arts producer and consultant.
