The Community Garden at Roomfield Baptist Church on Halifax Road has been refurbished, with the help of grants from Todmorden Town Council and the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

Last Sunday there was a short ceremony to re-dedicate the garden for community use.

Pastor John Lockhart led the ceremony, explaining that the garden needed refurbishing and that although the church has partly funded the work, the project could not have proceeded without the grants, which are greatly appreciated.

Church treasurer and property steward Arline Simpson said that the garden was first created as a community space with the assistance of Todmorden Rotary Club when the old chapel was demolished in the 1950s.

It was maintained by the former Todmorden Borough Council and then Calderdale Council until three years ago, but since then the burden has fallen on the church, who are keen to ensure that it remains available for the benefit of the local community.
