More than £200 was raised for the Mayor’s charity during a coffee morning at Todmorden Town Hall on Saturday.

Many people attended the event, in aid of the Young People’s Caravan Project in Todmorden, and tucked into refreshments including semla cakes - a Swedish version of the traditional hot cross bun.

Mayor of Todmorden Coun Margareta Holmstedt said: “It was pretty full for the two hours and lots of people tried my buns. It was good fun.”

The final fundraising event of Coun Holmstedt’s mayoral year will be a promises auction at Todmorden Town Hall on Friday April 1.

Local people and businesses have given generously and more than 40 promises and offers will be auctioned on the night by Ian Peace, of Calder Valley Auctioneers.

In addition, there will be live music and a pie and peas supper.

Coun Holmstedt said: “We have now raised over £4,000 but a bit more would come in to good use at the youth caravan.”

Tickets priced £3.50 are available from Todmorden Tourist Information Centre, Jeff Hunter on 01706 819443 or Coun Holmstedt on 01706 812510.
