Could you help a team of clog dancers step up their beat?
A small group of five clog dancers that practice at 10am each Monday morning in a room hired from Dawn Chapman’s school of Dance at Victoria Road, Todmorden, are looking for a musician to provide some live backing music for them.
One of the five, Anne Crane, said: “I myself began clog dancing in Newcastle on Tyne in the 80s and have performed in the States, Russia and many European countries.
“I have now been teachIng this form of dance to the others in the group for almost a year and we all thoroughly enjoy it.
“Unfortunately we have to practice to recorded music as we have no musicians amongst us. But this is far from ideal. Someone proficient on the melodeon, accordion or fiddle who is able to play traditional English tunes would be ideal.”
Anne said she is currently teaching clog steps from Lancashire and Northumberland/Durham. “We dance in the wooden soled clogs that many people will remember being worn by workers in the local cotton mills many years ago.”
Interested musicians can all in to a session to meet the dancers or ring Anne on 01706 818085.
