Council welcomes flood scheme work

NEWS that work on the next phase of the Todmorden flood defence scheme will start this week has been welcomed by Calderdale Council.

Environment Agency (EA) contractors will start by strengthening a culvert under the market hall.

Coun Janet Battye, leader of the council, said: “This is important work, but it’s equally important that disruption to local traders, shoppers and visitors to the town centre is kept to an absolute minimum.”

Cabinet member Coun Barry Collins is pleased the EA has appointed a full time public liaison officer to keep people informed.
