Residents in Boothtown are being plagued by fie bugs who are setting fire to pegged out laundry, bins and estate agent signs.

West Yorkshire’s police and fire services have issued a joint appeal following a spate of 26 arsons in the last six weeks in locations including; Titan Works, Grantham Road, Camel Road and Iona Street.

There has also been a number of incidents of criminal damage, including an incident at the Bankfield Museum last Monday (June 8) where windows were smashed and £1,000 of damage was caused.

The fire service’s district commander for Calderdale, Martyn Greenwood, said: “Arson is a drain on our resources and can have extremely serious consequences.”

PC Anna Law said: “I would urge people to be vigilant and to report anything, or anyone suspicious to the police. Enquiries are ongoing.”
