A hairdresser says she has been inspired to take on another challenge after completing the Great North Swim.

Debbie Kershaw, of Central Hair Design, Todmorden, raised a bumper £2,500 for Overgate Hospice by taking part in the sponsored swim over three days in June.

Friends of Overgate Todmorden fundraisers were on hand at Central Hair Design to receive the cheque and Debbie was also congratulated by the Mayor of Todmorden, Coun Jayne Booth.

“Before this I had never swum outside and never swum in the sea,” Debbie said.

“I trained mostly in Todmorden pool before going outside to Salford Quays.

“I swam in the sea on holiday in Greece. It was choppy waters and right for practice.”

She thanked everybody who has supported her and helped to raise the money.

“People have been just bobbing in with money. It’s been fantastic,” she said.

“The Friends of Overgate Todmorden members are an inspiration.

“I knew I could do the distance but doing the swim was very overwhelming and emotional.

“But I will do it again, maybe a bigger challenge.”

Donations can still be made via Central Hair Design.
